Why I built KindnessSender.com
Why difficulty expressing kind words led to KindnessSender.com, a simple experiment for helping people share encouragement with less hesitation.

If you asked my friends, coworkers, or some family to describe me, you might hear this: Cocky (a little), funny (sometimes), grumpy (too often), hot‑tempered here and there, hard‑working, social, high‑maintenance, flexible (a friend called me that while we were playing We’re Not Really Strangers), stubborn (ask my wife), and probably a know‑it‑all.
I can own most of that. But there’s one thing I’ve never been good at:
Saying kind words out loud.
My brain is wired to show kindness by doing, showing up, fixing things, carrying the load. My son is the only exception; sweet words come easily when I call him. That’s the magic of parenthood: you discover things you didn’t know about yourself. With others, my mouth locks. I worry it will sound fake, flirty, or like I’m polishing apples. It’s a mutual feeling for many of us. There’s a quiet rule: use too many warm words and they can be taken the wrong way. So we stay silent, even when our hearts are full.
We keep our mouths shut even when we see on the news how many parents are crushed by grief from losing their little ones. We see kids who are just skin and bone because someone shot their parents in the head when they tried to get a piece of bread. The image that won’t leave me is a kid kissing his father goodbye as he goes to look for food and never comes back.
Is someone cutting onions here? 😢
Getting older (and maybe with less testosterone, who knows) has made me softer. I wanted a way to open my mouth, but not for screaming. For saying kind words easier. I didn’t want to freeze when it’s time to say the good thing I actually mean. So why not write it if it can’t be said?
So I built KindnessSender.com.
It’s a simple place to write and send a kind message. If words are hard, you can ask AI to help you find them. No big speeches. No overthinking. Just honest notes, “I see you,” “I’m proud of you,” “You’ll find your feet again,” “I know your loved one is in a better place, keep going,” “life is the only thing that matters, give one don’t take one.”
Maybe your message lands in the inbox of:
- a friend who needs a small push to get back up,
- a parent who feels empty,
- a kid who needs proof that life still has room for them,
- even a soldier looking for a reason to lower the gun.
A few words can be the nudge that changes a day. Sometimes, a life.
We all want a legacy. Here’s what I hope mine is: A man who wasn’t great at saying kind words, so he built a way to send them.
When words get stuck, kindness doesn’t have to. Say the good thing, without overthinking. KindnessSender.com, Send one message today.
